Lesson 18 Roles and Functions of an Educational Media Center

          An Educational Media Center or EMC is a facility for the housing and utilization of all educational media within the school. It is a basic requirement for a school to render quality service. It is a unit in the school that cooperates with other units or departments that help the school fulfill its vision and mission.

     

   

           It serves a myriad of roles, among which are:

                 - Center of resources

                 - Laboratory for learning

                 - Agent of teaching

                 - Service agency

                 - Coordinating agency

                 - Recreational reading center

                 - A stepping stone to other resources of the community

        For an EMC to be functional, it has to have the following elements:

             1)      The instructional media services

            2)      Media and instruction

3             

            3)      Classroom facilities

4          4)      Media program
